The Southern Maryland Junior Miss Scholarship Program is an official preliminary of America's Junior Miss (AJM), the oldest and largest scholarship program for high school junior females of its type.

AJM promotes education and excellence in all areas of life.  Unlike beauty pageants, AJM encourages young women to be confident in who they are and to strive to reach their goals and become successful leaders in our communities.  AJM has established a unique system to evaluate contestants in the categories of Scholastics, Interview, Talent, Fitness, and Self-expression.  Since 1958, AJM has awarded more than $90 million in cash scholarships and provided thousands of young women with college granted scholarships to colleges and universities across the nation.  In addition to providing scholarships, AJM challenges each participant to share its national outreach program, Be Your Best Self (BYBS), with young people across the nation.  Through BYBS, Junior Misses encourage self esteem and excellence in all young people through the program's five principles: Be healthy, Be Involved, Be Studious, Be Ambitious, and Be Responsible.

To participate, contestants must have a minimum GPA of 3.3, go through a 10 minute interview, perform a physical fitness routine, and perform a talent. Winners will proceed onto the Maryland Junior Miss Program with the potential of moving onto the National program. Each level offers various scholarships to the contestants with National Program
contestants competing for a share of $150,000 in cash scholarships.  First Prize for the local program is $1,000. This program is FREE to compete in.

This local program is for young ladies in their junior year of high school (i.e. those who will graduate high school in 2012).  If you are graduating in 2012, you are eligible to participate in the program this year.  If not, still, please let me know when you will be graduating, and I will ensure that you are contacted for your respective graduating year.

I look forward to assisting you with any questions you may have about the Southern Maryland Junior Miss Scholarship Program

Sincerely,
Shannon Weimert
